In this application pack

  • About this Opportunity

Windsor Group has been appointed by Carers Queensland to partner on the recruitment of three Non‑Executive Directors. This search forms part of a broader board renewal and capability‑building process, supporting the organisation’s next phase of growth, governance maturity, and strategic impact.

This landing page has been prepared for public consumption and provides an overview of the organisation, board context, and the opportunity for prospective directors. Additional confidential information will be shared with shortlisted candidates at the appropriate stage of the process.

  • About the Organisation

Carers Queensland is the peak body representing carers across Queensland, advocating for and supporting more than 600,000 carers, including a significant cohort of young carers. The organisation plays a critical role in policy advocacy, service delivery, and system navigation for carers across disability, aged care, and community services. Carers Queensland is also part of the National Carers Network as a Member of Carers Australia.

Carers Queensland operates at scale, with approximately 530 employees located across metropolitan and regional Queensland. The organisation is a major delivery partner under the NDIS Local Area Coordination (LAC) program and is one of the largest LAC providers nationally.

Beyond government‑funded services, Carers Queensland delivers a range of initiatives including:

    • Carer Conversations (direct engagement with carers across regions)
    • Carer Friendly Business Awards
    • Education and training through its Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
    • Workforce re‑entry and micro‑credential programs for carers

The organisation is values‑driven, purpose‑led, and deeply connected to the communities it serves.

    Links:

  • Current Context & Strategic Direction

Carers Queensland is operating in a dynamic and complex environment, characterised by:

    • Time‑limited government funding and tender cycles
    • Ongoing reform across the NDIS, disability, and aged care systems
    • Workforce challenges linked to contract uncertainty

The organisation is financially stable, with annual turnover of approximately $70m and strong cash reserves. While the current year is expected to be breakeven or slightly negative due to deliberate investment in strategic initiatives, the underlying fundamentals of the organisation remain strong.

    Key strategic priorities include:

    • Strengthening governance maturity and board effectiveness
    • Diversifying revenue streams beyond government contracts
    • Growing and stabilising the RTO to be commercially viable
    • Preparing for major upcoming tenders, including the Carer Gateway
    • Embedding strong organisational culture, safety, and inclusion

A recent independent Board Matters review has informed a program of governance improvement, with many recommendations already implemented and others actively underway.
