More than just a role …
ADA Australia is a Queensland‑based organisation funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments to deliver free, independent advocacy and legal services across Queensland. The organisation supports older people accessing aged care through its role as the Queensland provider for the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) and the Australian Government’s care finder program (ADA Link), as well as people with disability through national and state advocacy programs, including a First Nations disability advocacy service. As a registered Queensland Community Legal Centre, ADA Law provides legal advice and representation in guardianship, administration, mental health and elder abuse matters, including services for seniors in outback and western Queensland.
Working closely with government and other stakeholders, a dedicated finance team of three (including this role) manages a diverse portfolio of active grants. The scale and complexity of this activity is effectively managed within the current financial environment, with a clear pathway to further strengthen financial oversight, budgeting and reporting as the organisation matures.
To this end, the organisation has recently transitioned to Microsoft Dynamic 365 (Wiise) as its core finance system with Employment Hero for the HR and payroll functions serving 140+ staff across Queensland. So, you will need proficiencies with accounting ERP’s Wiise /Dynamics as well as with advanced Excel. Or be able to quickly and efficiently ‘take these on board’.
Experience leading a small financial team, building capability, the determination to ‘own’ your role, with the proven ability to ‘translate’ complex financials into easy-to-follow daily language will add strength to your application. As will developed skills in managing multiple funding streams, complex acquittals and audit processes.
Along with that, you’ll find your responsibilities to be very much as you’d expect in a leading financial role at this senior level in a non-profit enterprise. Broadly, that covers month-end close, reconciliations, BAS/FBT/GST compliance, Board reporting, budgeting, the continual improvement of policies and processes, controls, delegations and anti-fraud settings – and numerous other functions that you have doubtlessly perfected in previous roles.
With the current Senior Finance Officer approaching retirement, a structured handover period will support a smooth transition and provide time to settle into this welcoming, inclusive workplace culture of this values driven NFP.
