  • You hold Bachelor or Master level qualifications in Counselling
  • Experience leading a large membership organisation, peak body or professional association
  • Strong advocacy, leadership and communication

As the largest peak body for counselling and psychotherapy in Australia, this nonprofit, professional association is dedicated to the counselling and psychotherapy profession representing over 23,000 registered Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Students.

They serve as a cornerstone for the counselling community, ensuring accreditation, professional development and growth, ethical conduct, and high standards in education and practice.

This association has experienced significant growth over the past 3 years doubling in member size with continued growth forecast.  The last few years has seen a complete digital transformation from its systems, professional standards and internal uplift of governance structures including a legal entity change to a public company limited by guarantee under ASIC.

With the profession undergoing historical change, this organisation is a reputable and creditable stakeholder with success in leading government advocacy and contribution to the development of the recently approved National Standards for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and now focusing on the implementation under new regulatory reform.

They are seeking a CEO who is ready to lead the counselling profession into its next phase. To drive the implementation of the strategy to continue to advance and strengthen the counselling profession, to keep focus on improving the member experience and investing in the next generation of counsellors. These will be your pillars of success. You will be supported by a team of dedicated and committed professionals all focussed on improving the lives of those who seek support from counsellors.

You will bring to this role your experience in working with a large community of members, so being a clear communicator and change manager is essential. You will have demonstrated experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets, creating new revenue streams and building partnerships throughout the sector.

You bring with you a calm and resilient leadership and demonstrated project management skills to manage multiple programs of work and lead a large team of staff.  Ideally, you have strong digital skills and can drive future change and innovation to improve the experience of our members and understanding the critical importance of the digital eco-system.

Most importantly, as the CEO, you bring your qualifications and experience as a Counsellor to lead the profession in Australia. As the lead subject matter expert within the organisation, you will be supported by various committees and will be required to prepare submissions and responses to multiple profession based and sector related requirements. This is a hands-on role and experience in working in Associations will set you up for success.

You have experience working with a Board of Directors, preparation of board and committee packs and risk and issues management. You have knowledge of and experience with multiple legislative and compliance requirements required both for counsellors to adhere and those that are used within the business operations on a daily basis.

This role involves regular travel both domestic and on occasion internationally.
