The centre is highly regarded by funding partners, with many of the programs running successfully year after year. They work closely with other charities and support services in the area, ensuring a collaborative approach to creating lasting, positive change.     The Deception Bay Neighbourhood Centre continues to be a trusted and vital support hub for the community, committed to delivering inclusive programs and services that meet the evolving needs of those they support. They remain fully compliant with the Human Services Quality Framework (HSQF) and are dedicated to strengthening their partnerships to expand essential programs. 

    Deception Bay Neighbourhood Centre has been selected to take part in an 18-month pilot program in Social Prescribing for Grief and Loss, a significant initiative that utilises social activities to assist and support participants in navigating their experiences. The success of this program has the potential to secure further funding, enabling DBNC to continue their impactful work in fostering connection, resilience, and well-being within the community. 

  • Environment and Challenges

    The Deception Bay Neighbourhood Centre is dedicated to supporting disadvantaged community members, including adults, families, and children, through a range of programs aimed at building skills and creating pathways to employment. Their commitment to empowerment and inclusion ensures that individuals have the support they need to overcome barriers and work towards a more stable future. 

    Currently, Deception Bay Neighbourhood Centre is actively assessing the impacts of the council’s changes in addressing homelessness, particularly the decision to move on ‘rough sleepers.’ Recognising the significant effects on vulnerable individuals, they have met with Council representatives and the local elected member to advocate for the needs of the community, ensuring that those affected receive the necessary support and services. 

  • Role Overview
    • Policy & Procedure Review 
      • Conduct a full review of all organisational policies and procedures. 
      • Update policies in line with legislative and regulatory changes. 
      • Ensure policies reflect current best practices and operational needs. 
    • Policy Development & Implementation 
      • Redraft and refine policies as required. 
      • Conduct staff consultations to ensure policies are practical and effective. 
      • Provide policy advice and recommendations to the management committee. 
      • Implement updated policies, including facilitating any necessary staff training. 
    • Compliance & Risk Management 
      • Ensure policies align with DBNC’s risk profile and operational needs. 
      • Maintain all organisational registers and compliance documentation. 
      • Assist in Work Health & Safety (WHS) responsibilities, including lockdown procedures. 
      • Respond to audit findings and prepare for upcoming audits. 
    • Practical Application & Industry Knowledge 
      • Ensure policies are accessible and usable at a grassroots level. 
      • Review and maintain standards documents, incorporating hyperlinks to relevant legislation and resources. 
      • Be hands-on in supporting staff with policy implementation. 
      • Experience in Not-for-Profit (NFP), charity, and childcare sectors preferred. 
  • Confirmation of Salary and Other Benefits
    • Base is SCHADs Award level 5-6 depending on experience.  
    • 20 hours a week Tues -Thurs  
    • Flexible working arrangements after the first month 
  • Key Candidate Strengths

    Qualifications & Experience 

    • Tertiary qualification in Business Administration, Governance, Compliance, or a related field. 
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in compliance, governance, or policy roles within the community-based or not-for-profit sector. 
    • Current Blue Card 
    • Strong understanding of HSQF, ACNC guidelines, and the Associations Incorporation Act. 

    Communication & Collaboration 

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and accessible policy documents. 
    • Confident in facilitating staff consultations and fostering understanding of compliance requirements. 
    • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. 

    Compliance & Policy Expertise 

    • Skilled in developing, reviewing, and implementing policies and procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance. 
    • Experience responding to audit results and preparing for upcoming audits. 
    • Practical knowledge of risk management, including Work Health & Safety (WHS).
