The organisation is looking for a CEO who can manage diverse interactions, secure funding, and drive strategic initiatives, particularly in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympics.

The board is committed to maintaining a balanced and skilled governance structure while addressing operational challenges and leveraging growth opportunities.

And these growth opportunities are across the organisation, not only membership but corporate partnerships and government, (local, State and Federal).

With the departure of the previous CEO, two directors have stepped in to undertake the operational requirements of the business in a caretaking capacity.

Having an established portfolio of programs and events, Surf Queensland has a steady pipeline of income and revenue with which to build on and develop. Major revenue sources include government funding, corporate partnerships, and event management. The organisation has a turnover of about $1.2 million and employs six staff members.

  • Organisational Plans for the Future

With a clear focus on sustainability, the organisation exists to promote and advocate for the sport of surfing in Quensland from the grass roots up. Working under a federated model, with the national office in NSW, the organisation faces competition and collaboration challenges with Surfing Australia itself and the World Surf League (WSL).

Building on and strengthening these relationships is essential for the success of this role. The ideal CEO should have experience in stakeholder management, government relations, and corporate partnerships.

Future opportunities include leveraging the upcoming 2032 Olympics, enhancing corporate partnerships, and developing and expanding the membership through a revised values proposition.

The constitution identifies a board consisting of six directors. A voluntary Board there are currently five directors who bring a diverse background of experience in law, accounting, marketing, and business.

There is a clear remit for the board to maintain a balance of skills and gender representation with a focus on high-performance programs and supporting young athletes.
