Richmond Fellowship Queensland (RFQ) is one of Australia’s longest-standing and most respected community mental health and wellbeing organisations. For more than 50 years, RFQ has worked alongside individuals, families and communities experiencing mental health challenges, providing recovery-oriented, person-centred support that improves wellbeing and creates positive long-term outcomes.
Today, RFQ supports approximately 12,000 clients annually through a workforce of more than 430 employees and delivers services across Queensland and interstate. With forecast annual revenue approaching $50 million, RFQ continues to evolve while remaining deeply committed to its purpose of supporting people to thrive.
The organisation delivers a broad range of services across recovery-oriented mental health, wellbeing, housing and community-based programs. Increasingly, RFQ is also investing in research, innovation and impact measurement to strengthen service outcomes and contribute to broader improvements in Australia’s mental health system.

Current Context & Strategic Direction
RFQ is entering an exciting period in its evolution.
The organisation is currently in the second phase of its strategic plan and is focused on building upon strong foundations to increase both its influence and impact. While RFQ has long been recognised by funders, partners and service users, there is a growing ambition to ensure the organisation becomes more visible as a leader in recovery-oriented mental health, wellbeing and community-based support.
Key strategic priorities include:
- Demonstrating measurable social impact
- Strengthening evidence-based practice
- Expanding research capability
- Increasing sector influence and visibility
- Enhancing lived experience leadership
- Building stronger partnerships
- Supporting sustainable growth
- Continuing governance maturation

Recent achievements include the expansion of Supported Independent Living services into Canberra and Goulburn, alongside growing research partnerships with leading universities including the University of Melbourne and the University of Southern Queensland.
RFQ is also exploring future opportunities around brand positioning and organisational growth to ensure the organisation remains relevant, innovative and influential in a rapidly changing sector.

About the Role
This recruitment process represents a significant Board renewal program designed to strengthen governance capability and support RFQ’s next stage of development. The Board is seeking individuals who are excited by the opportunity to contribute to:

Key Selection Criteria (Expanded Overview)
RFQ is seeking to appoint up to four Non-Executive Directors to complement the existing capability of the Board.
Appointments are expected to strengthen expertise in three priority areas:
1. Sector Leadership, Practice, Quality & Research
The Board is seeking individuals with expertise in areas such as:
- Mental health
- Community services
- Research and innovation
- Social impact measurement
- Practice governance
- Service quality and safeguarding
- Recovery-oriented mental health and wellbeing
- Wellbeing science
This appointment may ultimately chair the newly established Practice, Quality and Research Committee.
Importantly, candidates who understand the role of lived experience, recovery-oriented practice and the value of for-purpose, community-based mental health and wellbeing support are highly valued.
2. People, Culture & Workforce Governance
RFQ is seeking senior executive leaders who bring expertise in:
- Workforce strategy
- People and culture
- Workplace health and safety
- Organisational development
- Leadership capability
- Psychosocial risk management
- Employee wellbeing
This appointment will help strengthen the Board’s oversight of workforce-related strategy and organisational culture.
3. IT, AI and Digital Governance
RFQ is undertaking significant digital transformation and is seeking governance-level expertise in:
- Digital strategy
- Digital governance
- AI governance
- Cybersecurity oversight
- Technology-enabled service delivery
- Data governance
- Organisational transformation
The Board is particularly interested in candidates who can help guide future innovation while maintaining strong governance and risk oversight.

Board Commitment
Board members can expect to participate in:
- Quarterly Board meetings (face-to-face)
- Quarterly committee meetings (online)
- One to two annual strategy sessions
- AGM attendance
- Preparation and review of Board papers
Board Meetings are generally held on Monday afternoons and typically run for three to four hours.
Director Remuneration
The Board currently operates on a voluntary basis.
Following constitutional changes approved by members, RFQ has the ability to introduce director remuneration in the future. Benchmarking and discussions regarding remuneration are expected to occur as part of future governance planning.

Recruitment Process & Key Dates
