Chief Executive Officer – Alliance for Gambling Reform

In this application pack

  • About this Opportunity

Windsor Group has been appointed by the Alliance for Gambling Reform (AGR) to manage this executive search.

As a profitforpurpose organisation, Windsor Group partners with valuesled organisations to deliver ethical, highimpact recruitment across the nonprofit, government and commercial sectors.

This search represents a rare opportunity for an experienced executive to lead one of Australia’s most influential advocacy organisations at a critical moment for national gambling reform.

  • About the Organisation

The Alliance for Gambling Reform is a national advocacy organisation working to reduce gambling‑related harm across Australia.

AGR is recognised nationally for its leadership in shaping public debate, influencing policy reform, and elevating lived experience voices in conversations about gambling as a public health issue.

Operating with a small, highly committed team distributed across the eastern seaboard, AGR works in partnership with community organisations, researchers, advocates, and policymakers to drive systemic change at state and federal levels.

The organisation is best known for its work on gambling advertising reform, harm minimisation, and policy advocacy, supported by a growing public profile and strong public support for reform.

  • Current Context & Strategic Direction

AGR is operating in a complex and evolving political and funding environment. Public awareness of gambling harm is at an all‑time high, and there is strong community appetite for reform. However, responsibility for gambling policy is fragmented across government, creating challenges in achieving coordinated action at a federal level.

    Key strategic priorities include:

    • Driving national and state‑based policy reform related to gambling advertising, harm minimisation and consumer protections
    • Securing sustainable funding through government grants, councils, philanthropic trusts, foundations and individual giving
    • Strengthening alliances and collaborations with aligned organisations across health, mental health, domestic violence, and financial wellbeing
    • Maintaining and enhancing AGR’s public profile and credibility while managing complex stakeholder dynamics
    • Supporting and strengthening a fully remote, part‑time workforce

The incoming CEO will be expected to help the Board navigate decisions about advocacy focus (federal vs state), funding strategy, and organisational sustainability while maintaining momentum during a leadership transition.

  • About the Role

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for providing strategic, operational and advocacy leadership to AGR.

Reporting to the Board Chair and working closely with the Chief Advocate, the CEO will lead the organisation’s strategy, manage daytoday operations, and ensure AGR remains financially viable, influential and effective.

    Key areas of accountability include:

    • Leading and executing AGR’s advocacy strategy at state and federal levels
    • Driving revenue generation through grants, philanthropy, partnerships and fundraising
    • Managing a geographically dispersed, virtual team with a strong focus on accountability and outcomes
    • Representing AGR with governments, funders, partners and the media
    • Supporting the Board with highquality reporting, clear KPIs and sound governance
    • Maintaining constructive and disciplined engagement with highprofile advocates and stakeholders

In the first 12 months, the CEO will be expected to stabilise funding, deepen key relationships, maintain advocacy momentum, and position AGR for longerterm sustainability.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a nationally recognised advocacy organisation at a moment of significant public support and political opportunity. The role offers genuine scope to influence public policy, shape national conversation, and deliver meaningful social impact while working closely with an engaged Board and highprofile advocates.
