Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officer (AO6) to lead strategic communication and engagement initiatives across one of Queensland’s fastest growing regions.

As the Senior Communications Officer, you will lead the development and delivery of communications and engagement strategies for key transport and infrastructure projects across the Sunshine Coast. You’ll work closely with project teams to create clear, relatable messaging that helps communities stay informed, feel confident, and understand the benefits of the work happening around them.

In this role, you will:
- Develop, implement, and manage strategic communication plans and campaigns for projects across the Sunshine Coast Region.
- Collaborate with project delivery teams to create messaging that highlights the social and economic benefits of transport infrastructure.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, from contractors to community groups and regional partners.
- Produce engaging content including media releases, newsletters, social media posts, and project updates that keep the community informed in clear, jargon‑free language.
- Provide expert communications advice to senior leaders and project teams to support decision making and project delivery.
- Identify emerging issues and risks, proactively developing strategies to ensure communication remains smooth and effective.
You are someone who can simplify complexity, inspire confidence, and communicate with purpose. You may think of yourself as a strategist, a storyteller, or even a “communications traffic controller” who keeps messages moving in the right direction.To excel in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, or public relations, ideally within a government or infrastructure setting
- Knowledge of infrastructure or transport projects (highly regarded)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A track record of building effective relationships and engaging with diverse stakeholders
- Experience working in government environments, balancing community needs with organisational priorities
- A proactive approach, with the ability to anticipate challenges and navigate them with calm, practical solutions
- Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field, and/or IAP2 certification (highly desirable)
