Chief Executive – Regional Tourism Leadership

Location: Toowoomba, QLD
Role: Executive

Lead a region, inspire a movement, and shape a legacy in one of Queensland’s most diverse and dynamic tourism landscapes.

  • Must know & love regional life. Genuine desire to live/work Toowoomba.
  • Dynamic, strategic leader who brings experience, expertise, excitement, energy + ideas!
  • Base salary $165K + fully maintained vehicle + great work/life balance

The sky is the limit…

Across Southern Queensland, hundreds of tourism operators from boutique accommodation providers to cultural institutions and food producers are ready to grow. They’re looking for a leader who can unite them, advocate for them, and elevate their collective voice.

This is a rare opportunity to step into a CEO role that blends strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, and regional pride. Based in Toowoomba, you’ll guide a well-established tourism organisation through its next chapter, one shaped by the momentum of a new brand, the promise of the Brisbane 2032 Games, and the long-term vision of Destination 2045.

The region will play a visible role in the upcoming 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, hosting equestrian events and welcoming global visitors. Harnessing this moment will require a leader who can translate opportunity into action – someone who understands how to build partnerships, attract investment, and position the region as a destination of choice.

You’ll be the face and voice of tourism across the region, working with local governments, state and federal agencies, industry bodies, tourism operators, and community groups. You’ll lead a passionate team, build commercial partnerships, and ensure the organisation is financially resilient and future focused.

You’ll bring a genuine desire to live and lead from Toowoomba, paired with experience in tourism, regional development, or a related sector. Your leadership style will be collaborative and strategic, with a proven ability to engage stakeholders, develop teams, and deliver results. You’ll understand the importance of financial sustainability, and be confident in securing funding through grants, partnerships, and commercial opportunities.

This is not a desk-bound role. It’s boots-on-the-ground leadership. You’ll be equally comfortable in boardrooms and on backroads, speaking to ministers or mentoring small business owners. You’ll be apolitical, diplomatic, and influential – able to navigate complex relationships and advocate effectively at all levels of government.

You’ll also be a cultural fit for a region that values authenticity, connection, and community. Whether you’ve grown up in the country Australia, or are ready to embrace regional life, you’ll bring the energy, empathy, and vision needed to make a lasting impact.

This is a long-term opportunity to lead with purpose, grow with the region, and leave a legacy. If you’re ready to be the face of regional tourism, we’d love to hear your story.
