  • Current Situation

    RSPCA Queensland has developed a new fundraising strategy aimed at boosting existing revenue by an additional 28% by the year 2030. This strategy involves integrating gift in wills messaging into all activities, including fundraising, retail, and adoptions. The structure has been revised, merging individual giving and philanthropy into one pillar to streamline efforts with the opportunity for a leader with both relationship-building and digital skills to drive this strategy forward.

  • Organisational Plans for the Future

    RSPCA Queensland plans to expand its fundraising team over the duration of the 5-year strategy. The focus is on ensuring that all activities are aligned with the gift in wills messaging, which is a significant strength for the organisation. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in executing this strategy and ensuring the team is well-supported and capable of achieving the set goals. Succession planning is also a key focus, with an emphasis on developing capable individuals who can step up when needed.

  • About the Role

    You will be responsible for leading and optimising the organisation’s multi-channel fundraising programs, including gifts in wills, high value giving, regular giving, single giving, and appeals.

    Skillset and Experience

    • Transformational Leadership: The new Senior Fundraising Manager must be able to navigate change and inspire the team. This includes being a vulnerable leader who does not need to be the expert in the room but can guide and support the team effectively.
    • Relationship-Building Skills: The organisation has a unique approach to engaging with supporters, often involving personal interactions. The successful candidate must possess strong relationship-building skills to maintain and enhance these connections.
    • Digital Skills: Strong digital and acquisition skills are essential, especially in the context of fundraising, leveraging digital platforms to enhance fundraising efforts.
    • Team Leadership: Managing a team with diverse skill sets and personalities is crucial. The Senior Fundraising Manager needs to execute the strategy by knowing what pieces are needed and who can deliver them, without necessarily being the technical expert.
    • Strategic Execution: Must be able to execute the strategy effectively, ensuring that all activities are aligned with the organisation’s goals and that the team is well-supported.

  • Environment and Challenges
    • Federated Model: Managing a federated model adds complexity to the organisation’s operations. The Senior Fundraising Manager will need to ensure smooth coordination across different parts of the organisation.
    • Public Scrutiny: RSPCA Queensland often faces public scrutiny and needs to maintain a positive reputation. This includes dealing with passionate supporters and critics on social media and in traditional media.
    • Team Dynamics: Bringing the team together and ensuring everyone feels valued is crucial. All activities, regardless of dollar amount, are essential to moving donors through the pipeline. Making everyone feel valued is important.
  • Anticipated Timeline of Recruitment Process
