SENIOR FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT – Brisbane CBD

Agile, responsive, pro-active CA/CPA experienced in complex, large scale projects for career-changing role with environmental organisation.

  • Role demands absolute transparency down to each tiny detail
  • Experience leading an audit, a huge advantage
  • Experience in a similar role for an NFP – Ideal

Committed to governance, integrity and transparency, this Environmental Foundation is big and busy. The lead charity for the preservation of the Great Barrier Reef, it brings together a collaboration of business, science, government and philanthropy interests, that are committed to financing research and other projects needed to ensure a resilient reef.

With an annual budget of almost $50 million (and growing), there are always diverse projects operating at varying rates around multiple cost centres. And each and every one needs to be able to clearly track its allocations and expenditure down to the last red cent.

This exciting role is for an agile, ambitious, flexible and skilled Financial Accountant with an eye for the future.

Essentially what you’ll be doing is keeping your finger on the financial pulse of each financial activity within a large portfolio of marine projects.  Working closely with Project Managers and Directors you’ll provide expert financial advice and updates in everyday language that can be understood by non-financial personnel.

On top of producing the Foundation’s monthly reporting, annual budget, quarterly forecasts and financial statutory reporting, you’ll supervise and review all transactional accounting activities and processes performed by an Assistant Accountant. Overseeing project financial acquittals, you’ll comfortably meet project financial reporting requirements, establish relevant internal procedures and stakeholder relationships to handle those and perform many other related functions in support of the Finance Manager. These will include the preparation of the Annual Report and acting as liaison in a major audit conducted by EY.

This exciting role is perfect for someone who has system migration experience as the Foundation is on the process of transitioning from its current Xero software to Sage Intacct. Familiarity with this system will be a big bonus but is not essential if you are IT capable and a fast learner.

To be considered, you will bring relevant tertiary qualifications with CA/CPA membership and significant financial accounting experience role in a project-based business environment. A demonstrable understanding and practical application of Australian Accounting Standards is a must.

But the most important attributes that you can offer to this exciting role is the ability to prioritise workload in a dynamic environment, to think proactively, be pre-emptive and willing to sometimes step outside the boundaries of your role. The clincher will be your commitment to the environment and a pleasing personality that thrives on change and challenge.
