PRINCIPAL – RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE – Brisbane
Bring clear strategic leadership + consultative management to create a warm, Christian residential environment in which University students can flourish
- Full Time, fixed term contract for 3 years. Begins early 2020
- Attractive family residence supplied. Some regional travel
- Inner west Brisbane
In a lovely heritage-listed building in inner Brisbane, just a walk from the CBD, this church-based residential college offers warm family-style support and pastoral care in a home-away-from home for students studying on any tertiary campus in Brisbane.
With tertiary qualifications and considerable experience in Education, Business and/or Management, it’s likely – although not obligatory – that you’ll come to this influential role from a comparable position. But perhaps you’ve travelled another route? Somewhere that you’ve gained significant management/marketing/financial experience along with an understanding of the laws and duty of care applicable in a residential student environment?
Whatever your explicit background, what is absolutely essential to this role is your clear understanding of the challenges met by today’s university students especially those that relate to welfare and academic support.
Maintaining a culture that is founded in Christian faith, you will provide leadership, pastoral care and after hours support to college staff, residents and your student leadership team. This care will underwrite the academic support program for residents that is aimed at helping each one of them to attain their full academic potential.
Drawing on your passion for the benefits of education and genuine interest in the development of the young people under your care, you will gain enjoyment and satisfaction as you build supportive relationships with each of the diverse young adults who live in the College.
But, in what is rapidly becoming a very competitive area of business, you also need the acumen and relevant financial and managerial skills to ensure that this residential college stays – where it is – at the absolute top of its game. So, any knowhow and experience that you have previously accrued across the marketing, PR, communications and promotional disciplines is certain to add lustre to your application.
Enthusiastic, outgoing and confident in promoting the College across Queensland into schools, universities and other communities, it’s expected you will champion your organisation at every opportunity. This will mean some regional travel. But with a lovely, secure, recently renovated family home (yes, families are very welcome) awaiting your return to campus, you should thoroughly enjoy these breaks.
There’s no doubt this is a busy, involved and hands-on position that will appeal to a senior educator with a passion for supporting young adults. But it could also offer a richly rewarding opportunity for someone from business or management, who sees great benefit in applying life experience, accrued wisdom and leadership skills to ensure successive years of young people come out of their university experience happy, well balanced and resilient.
