ORIENTATION & MOBILITY SPECIALIST – Brisbane
Take ownership of the specialist role you’re trained to do at this culturally transformed & supportive organisation in the glorious, natural paradise that’s Queensland.
- Located on campus northern suburbs of Brisbane
- FT role. Salary negotiable

Brisbane-based with a national reach, this universally-known support organisation has undergone major structural and cultural change in recent years. It has emerged as a freshly-minted, progressive and contemporary business that nevertheless holds fast to its original mission of delivering high quality services to people who are blind or vision impaired in our communities.
Among those who provide these sought-after services are the specialised and highly trained Orientation and Mobility (O&M) professionals who – as part of a multi-disciplinary team – work to help enrich the lives of Queenslanders who are blind or whose disability includes sight impairment.
This specialised position requires you to bring the relevant qualifications, knowledge, skills, emotional maturity and the experience accrued by working successfully in a comparable role in disability services.
You already know – as do we – that this is a very specialised role with its own essence and energies. Those who do it best are almost always natural “people-people”. Kind and caring, independent and resilient, adaptable, non-judgemental, and totally committed team players for whom the client ‘s needs are always central.
Your ability to strike rapid rapport and build trust with people of all types – including your own colleagues and management – is vitally important. As are the patience, time management, organisational and communications skills that you use so effectively – along with your innate ability to problem solve – to create ‘break-through’ relationships with your clients.
Mature and professional in approach and presentation, you have proven excellent judgment and exceptional skills in applying appropriate boundaries to professional relationships.
If you have an interest in joining an organisation that is developing progressive ways to help its clients who are blind and low vision clients enrich their lives through new technology and the development of special physical skills, then you’ll be interested to know that this organisation is also extremely supportive of its own staff.
They want you to view this role as engaging, long term and both personally and professionally enriching. To strengthen that connection – and your ownership of it – they will provide you with an ethical culture, welcoming, family friendly team environment and a range of CBD programs.
While this position is based in suburban Brisbane, there may be some requirement for regional travel.
