- Great people and influencing skills a must!
Based in Brisbane’s south, this spirited membership organisation was established in 1985. Since then it has helped thousands of Queenslanders on their journey from diagnosis of this common, degenerative neurological condition and through its progression.
But although what is offered by this non-profit can be life-changing for families affected, it appears that its current membership of 2,000+ comprises only a fraction of the known 18,500 people who would benefit from its support.
This organisation is about to enter a new phase of development in 2019. A committed and visionary CEO is ardently determined to change the present situation by boosting memberships across the State.
Providing an essential link between those affected and support services, the goal is to ensure sufferers can face the future with confidence and independence. Research, information, awareness and support through resources such as an Information Line and a network of 34 Support Groups throughout Queensland, have already assisted many. But there is so much opportunity to make those resources available to more individuals, their families and carers – and it’s time to ‘take the show on the road.’
To do that, the team requires a highly motivated individual with a genuine interest in peak association membership and stakeholder engagement, strong administrative skills and excellent interpersonal and communications capabilities.
In this role, Brisbane-based but with some short-term, local and/or intrastate travel, you will take the lead in facilitating superior member, support group and volunteer engagement for this gutsy little nonprofit.
This is a role to make your own and one that offers the opportunity to become the primary point of contact – ‘the face’ of the organisation – as you ensure all member needs are met and stakeholders are well looked after.
Ensuring increasing public awareness will also be an important part of your remit.
Your solid membership and volunteer development history plus a proven track record of exceeding KPI’s and numeric goals will mean that you already understand – and hopefully have captured – all of the soft skills required in a role such as this. Among those will be your breathing values of empathy, inclusiveness, integrity, honesty, collaboration, and the absolute importance of solution-based results.
Efficient and effective with all the expected skills for a role of this type, the one personal attribute that will give you the edge here is your equanimity and calm, unflappable approach. Your ability to gently stand your ground, respond, explain and bring some small ray of light in these situations will make you “worth your weight in gold.”
