This big, busy, multi-disciplinary NFP Foundation is the lead charity for the Great Barrier Reef.  Leading the collaboration of business, science, government and philanthropy, it is committed to finding and administering funding solutions for the long-term conservation of this global icon.

As one of three leaders within a small, intentionally lean and agile consultative Executive working with the CEO, you will be responsible for providing high level strategic and operational advice to the units that interlink to form this business. These include Finance, Information Communication and Technology, People and Culture, Governance and Risk and Compliance.

Presently reaching the end of an intense period of growth throughout the past year, these units are enthusiastic, well skilled and pulling together purposefully – although still in a process of consolidation.

Among many improvements achieved by the Foundation in recent times has been the installation of extensive ’best in the class’ new technology across the organisation. Now, it’s all systems go, with teams trained, excited, and ‘ready to fly’ with a whole new suite of purpose-built tools.

But that’s not all that’s new. So too, are many of the skilled personnel, the systems, procedures and protocols. So, there’ll be plenty for you to get your teeth into with your characteristic ‘let’s find a better way’ approach. Mindful that you and your team are there to assist your internal customers in every possible way, it’s anticipated you’ll prioritise the introduction of a fresh and lively ‘here to help’ culture across all aspects of corporate services.

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to be an accredited financial wizard whose personal scope extends far beyond the archetypical, by-the-book, bean counter profile.  You will certainly need relevant business qualifications (preferably although not essentially) as a CA or CPA.  A degree in Business (Accounting) with a demonstrated track record of financial and operations management of a team at a professional level may suffice just as well.

Where you come from is less important than the capabilities you bring. We’re open to a range of financial backgrounds where you may have been employed in corporate/commercial business, a non-profit organisation (an advantage) or even government, to come up through the ranks to hold leadership- roles such as COO or CFO in sizeable companies.

However, what you must bring to the table are a strong knowledge of corporate governance principles including financial management, strategic planning, risk management, contract management, human resource management, technology management and continuous quality improvement. All are critical aspects of the role.

You will also need roundly developed communication and interpersonal competence that includes fine skills in negotiation, conflict resolution and the power to positively influence others in an environment of reform and change. An easy, helpful manner, a calm, unflappable approach and a ready smile could also prove very useful.

Overall, it will be your proven ability to stand up as the self-motivated, proactive and efficient leader of a passionate, dedicated and hardworking team that will be of prime importance. As will be your willingness to step outside of the boundaries of your role and  – with courage and curiosity – continually search out  better ways to enable and support our all-important conservation business.
