COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST

Communicate news & developments on the innovative & visionary scientific projects helping to save our Great Barrier Reef

  • Must be a skilled communicator with a 1st rate folio
  • Generalist writer with passion + 5 years’ experience
  • Brisbane CBD based

Comprising 3,000 reefs along 2,300km of Queensland’s coastline, the Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on Earth – an irreplaceable global icon that has earned United Nations World Heritage status. Two million visitors are attracted to its unparalleled beauty and rich marine life every year.

After many years of dedicated effort, vital funding has become available that enables the essential research needed to investigate and address the threats to the Great Barrier Reef. A complex and growing project portfolio provides a unique opportunity for business and philanthropy worldwide to invest in the Reef’s future.

This role offers you the once-in-a-career opportunity to draw on your writing expertise to share the stories surrounding this exciting and significant ongoing program of conservation work.

In this broad ranging role, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing the communication strategy for this high-profile NFP organisation with global reach. Your voice as the content creator will bring to life the stories of Reef restoration projects, support marketing, PR and fundraising initiatives, compile persuasive stakeholder presentations and write/produce diverse information packages around each project.

To build a compelling and hopeful narrative around the future of the Great Barrier Reef and of the projects that its Foundation and partners are implementing, you’ll need to be a seasoned writing professional. Extremely well organised, you are well practised in juggling work centres and deadlines and effective in working simultaneously with multiple internal and external partners on a variety of projects.

Of course, your work will be disseminated across all channels – including social, digital, print and broadcast media. For you, what really matters are your exemplary writing skills and proven flair for turning technical information into the captivating, emotive stories of hope and vision that touch people’s hearts and minds and encourage their determination to become involved.

Your professional background may be as a skilled communicator, journalist, feature writer, nonprofit campaign expert, in government, NFP or corporate enterprise. What is vital is that you are an accomplished storyteller and communicator and that you care deeply about what’s being done to conserve our Great Barrier Reef.
