Extraordinary ‘green fields’ opportunity to ‘re-start’ this remarkable 50+ yo charitable enterprise …

For decades – financed primarily by managed property assets – this sorely needed philanthropic group was a thriving, Church-based entity run entirely through the generous contributions of loyal volunteers and the good works have persisted for over half a century.

Although depleted by time and change, that admirable culture continues. This charity still offers a variety of benevolent growth and engagement opportunities to the elderly and people with disabilities. Activities are no-charge and purpose-designed to be fun and friendly, helping to build the skills, confidence and desire in all individuals to live fulfilling lives.

Built on Catholic beliefs, this organisation is warm, welcoming and truly ecumenical, in that it offers both social support and spiritual guidance to people of all backgrounds and faiths.

There is scope to transform and contemporise from the ground up…

The challenge now is to honour history and tradition, maintain service levels and sustain all existing relationships while ’hitting the re-start button.’  In part, this will involve developing strategy, rebuilding frameworks, pursuing new financial and relationship opportunities, reinvigorating the current business model and communicating intentions and achievements while growing towards the future.

This leadership role is unique and its scope unprecedented…

Several urgent imperatives will be obvious to an intending CEO with a transformation background. Perhaps beginning with the review and redraft of the company constitution, bearing in mind the aspects of canonical law involved?

Clearly, there’s a need to assess physical assets, develop a new investment strategy to maximise returns and to strengthen fundraising priorities. Fostering a dedicated oversight of all services and stakeholders – including clients, volunteers and partners – and implementing new, up-to-the minute recruitment and training processes for volunteers are all of primary importance.

But of course, based on your experience, you’ll be aware- at least in general terms – of all that needs to be done to bring this essential and revered philanthropic charity into line with contemporary practice. It is a mammoth and exciting challenge for a professional with a big heart, passion for social equity and the personal attributes to make a difference from day one.

Remember though that while striving for growth, business development, service extensions and transformation, this is not a commercial entity. It is and will remain a church-based, philanthropic support service dedicated to serving the vulnerable and older people of Brisbane’s inner city.
