  • Overview of Client

    AEIOU is a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity with DGR status. Established in 2005, AEIOU delivers high-quality therapy and care for children aged 2-6. 

    At AEIOU Foundation for Children with Autism, they have a simple goal: to provide early intervention that enables children with autism to live their best lives. It’s how they do it that sets them apart from everybody else. 

    Their family-centred program meets the Guidelines for Good Practice (Roberts & Prior 2012) and supports children with autism to develop essential life skills, independence and confidence. 

    AEIOU is an approved NDIS provider and actively supports families as they engage with the Scheme. 

    Along with providing early intervention, AEIOU is committed to research and chairs the AEIOU Research and Innovation Committee, are a founding partner of the Griffith University Autism Centre of Excellence (ACE), and a member of the Australian Autism Alliance. 

    AEIOU provides strong advocacy across all levels of government to raise awareness and increase the financial support for children with autism and their families.

  • Current Situation

    There is now an opportunity for a Head of Research to join the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) with the mandate to deliver exceptional clinical assessment to children with autism and utilise the data/evidence to drive research and the strategic priorities of the AEIOU Foundation. With a focus on advocacy, the incumbent will have the required diplomatic stakeholder management skills to liaise with government entities to secure additional grant funding, navigate conversations regarding NDIS reforms and advocate based on evidence-based positive outcomes for children who have been supported by the AEIOU Foundation.  

  • Environment and Challenges

    The Head of Research will inherit a strong clinical team and research team who are highly disciplined and focused. The team are early career requiring strong leadership, expertise, and professional development and guidance from the Head of Research. There will be ongoing (rolling) changes to the composition of the team as individual team members pursue further study or other career opportunities, requiring the Head of Research to focus on succession planning and a talent pipeline to ensure the ongoing stability of the team.  

  • What we are looking for

    The Head of Research will oversee the Clinical Assessment team and research team and work closely with the CEO, Board, ELT, Research Committee and external stakeholders. Strong communication skills are essential, as is the ability to adjust a technical/academic message to a wider audience. The successful candidate will have demonstrated business acumen whereby they can drive the development / implementation of new business or revenue lines and has capability / demonstrated experience with the necessary project management, budget management, KPIs, reporting etc. 

    Key skills and experience: 

    • PhD in special education, psychology or related discipline essential 
    • Research background including ethics, data analysis, manuscript preparation essential 
    • Demonstrated leadership/oversight including project management and business development 
    • Exceptional communication skills essential 
    • Demonstrated ability in budget development and crafting business proposals 
    • Previous experience in health and/or higher education desirable 

    Position Description

  • Confirmation of Salary and other benefits
    • $137,000 base salary + 11.5% superannuation 
    • Other benefits include salary packaging and subsidised parking 
    • Office-based role, Spring Hill location
