    QuIHN Ltd is an independent not-for-profit providing a range of specialist social and medical services relating to alcohol, other drug use and mental health. 

    Operating Queensland-wide, QuIHN provides programs across a continuum of care comprising of harm reduction programs, therapeutic programs and primary medical care. 

    At QuIHN we envision a world where all people who use substances are able to reach their full potential and the health and wellbeing outcomes of our communities is maximised. 

    QuIHN was born from a community mobilising response to HIV and later Hepatitis C, and in response to community stigmatisation and marginalisation of people who inject drugs. 

    QuIHN was a result of a merger between three separate community-based organisations, including: Queensland Injectors Voice for Advocacy and Action (QuIVAA); Sunshine Coast Intravenous AIDS Association (SCIVAA); and the Gold Coast based Drug Users Network of Education Services (DUNES). Of these three organisations, the primary founding body, QuIVAA Inc, still exists and is active today in illicit drug advocacy and in the governance of QuIHN Ltd. 

    QuIVAA Inc. is the Peak Peer Body which represents the interests of people who use drugs in Queensland.

  • Current Situation

    Due to the growth of the organisation a new position has been created for a Financial Controller to grow and develop the financial capabilities of the organisation. Initially a 0.6 FTE role the expectation is that this will increase as the revenue for the organisation grows. 

    The financial operations of the business are supported by two fulltime finance staff completing the roles of Finance Officer and Bookkeeper. The department has been overseen by the current CEO with the assistance of an external accountant and professional Company Secretary. 

  • Environment and Challenges

    QuIHN is a busy and varied environment. As a newly created position, this Financial Controller will bring their expertise in growing and developing the financial capabilities of the organisation. Undertaking the role of Company Secretary, they will also work closely with two Boards being QuiHN & QuiVAA. 

    As a greenfield, the opportunity to build on a highly competent team and establish sound financial practice provides an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on a community services organisation established over 35 years ago. 

  • What we are looking for

    The Financial Controller will provide leadership to the finance team whilst ensuring all financial aspects of the organisation meet industry best practice standards. CPA or CA qualified, you have a minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a senior financial leadership position in an NFP. 

    Well versed in navigating the government funding environment you have developed and grown multiple funding streams within a previous role. 

    A multi-faceted role you will have oversight of Compliance, Risk, Financial Modelling and Forecasting. You will also undertake Company Secretary activities with direct reporting lines to the CEO & Boards. 

    An immersive position – you are happy to roll your sleeves up and work hard to understand the mechanics of the organisation. Through this immersion you will be able to contribute to the strategic direction and planned execution of agreed priorities for the organisation from an informed position. 

    As a member of the senior leadership team, you will report directly to the CEO. 

    Experienced in developing, growing and leading a team you have a well-tuned EQ whilst being firm but fair, you are professionally mature and competent in having robust and respectful conversations, embracing decisions that are made in the best interest of the organisation.

  • The Role
    • Qualified CA/CPA Accountant (current) 
    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting or a related field 
    • Postgraduate qualification in business management, finance, law or similar – highly regarded 
    • Graduate membership of the Australian Institute of Company Directors or similar professional corporate governance organisation or willingness to obtain 
    • Demonstrated experience in a senior level finance management, Financial Controller, CFO, or similar role, preferably in a large Not-For-Profit or healthcare sector 
    • Demonstrated experience working in diverse environments with the ability to adapt to working with individuals from various backgrounds, including People Who Use Drugs 
    • Effective communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders 
    • In-depth knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles, and financial reporting 
    • Experience working strategically, including experience in developing and implementing business operations strategies and plans, at senior levels as a member of a Senior Leadership Team reporting to the CEO or Board 
    • Experience as a Company Secretary of a medium to large company or large Not-For-Profit 
    • Experience in developing and leading engaged, inspired, and high-performing teams (including role modelling expected behaviours, coaching, developing, mobilising talent, driving change, and uniting teams toward a shared vision) 
    • A track record of developing constructive relationships by effectively managing the competing demands of diverse stakeholders and exercising sound judgement and discretion in responding to sensitive and complex issues 
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities 
    • Ability to demonstrate that you are an ally of the AOD community or have lived or living experience of substance use 
    • Current Queensland driver’s licence (or equivalent) 
    • Ability to achieve successful national police check
